THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED AS AT 28TH FEB.
Slow Food Hunter Valley have arranged an Apple Picking day at the Tilse Orchard near Scone.

Slow Food Hunter Valley have arranged an Apple Picking day at the Tilse Orchard near Scone.

At the orchard the owners use minimal sprays (for fruit fly only) and they do not coat or wax the apples. The varieties we will be picking are Jonathon – which are ready to pick, Red Delicious – which we hope will be ripe enough on the weekend – and Grannies.

Slow Food Hunter Valley has booked the cottage at the Orchard Lodge for Saturday night, March 2nd. The cost of accommodation will be divided between guests so it can vary depending on numbers. Tents are also available for hire if needed. We will all enjoy a meal at the Gundy pub (called the Linga Longa Inn) together on Saturday night and organise breakfast together on Sunday morning. (How does a lovely meal of eggs and bacon sound?). Other meals will be up to each person.

Our goal is to pick 200kg of apples to be sold at the Slow Food Earth Markets, Maitland. Our goal is to sell the apples at the Earth Markets on Thursday, March 7th and at Maitland Taste Festival March 10th and 11th. There will be a wine and cider tasting in the afternoon in the orchard, hosted by Steve Tilse who owns the orchard. Each person is welcome to pick apples for themselves (for purchase at a reasonable price).

You are all invited to come apple picking and do not need to stay overnight. To book a place, email slowfoodhuntervalley@gmail.com.

What to bring? If you are travelling by car, bring anything you think you will need in an orchard (hat, gloves, apron, solid walking boots). Remember, if you don’t need it, you won’t use it. But if you don’t have it, you can’t use it.
