Thank You to Our Volunteers
Our wonderful volunteers gathered together at the Readers Café to celebrate another year of service to the Maitland community. During 2020 Our Slow Food Community Kitchen volunteers delivered around 4,500 meals to those in need – continuing their work under difficult circumstances.
A special mention to Amorelle and her staff who kept the meals coming using the local farmers’ produce and food donated by Oz Harvest before volunteers began to return to the kitchen, keeping the program afloat at a time of real community need.
Our amazing Slow Food Earth Market team have rolled out 20 Earth Markets this year with only two markets cancelled during lockdown. Classed as an essential service and using COVID safe practices, through our volunteers we could offer the Maitland area a real alternative to the supermarkets at a time when everyone was looking for a safer, local option.
Volunteers are behind everything that we do at Slow Food Hunter Valley and we thank everyone who has contributed this year – the cooks, choppers and veggie washers in our community kitchen, the bump in and bump out teams at the market and those volunteers who help the producers set up their produce and sell, the producers themselves who collect and deliver donated produce, the thinkers and organisers who work behind the scenes and the the writers, photographers and communicators who share the message of good, clean and fair food for all.
Without volunteers Slow Food Hunter Valley does not exist. Thank you so much for all your work again this year, what a terrific bunch you are!
